News & Rants
Getting excited about the RPM Challenge, I turned on Cakewalk and just started jamming and recording. Not perfect, but it's a fun little something: http://fabricari.com/music/rpm-sketch-01.mp3
Work and studying is still keeping my head out of comics, but music's keeping me creatively lit.
Here's a cover of "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye." Thanks to Neal for teaching me this version. I like the sentiments in the lyrics of this version. I have a tough time churching up the frailing while singing and changing chords, but here it is, warts 'n' all.
This is the first real tune I've tried to learn in Mountain Modal (GDGCD). I was inspired an assortment of other folks who posted their versions.
Pat and Patrick Costello over at Funky Seagull just put out another awesome book for frailing banjo, The Outlaws and Scalawags Songbook.
Self-published and for sale: http://funkyseagull.com/outlaws.html Or you can download the creative commons PDF I've been working on one of them all week - Whiskey in the Jar: http://www.fabricari.com/music/whiskey-in-the-jar.mp3
I stumbled across Sawmill Tuning for the banjo this weekend. Makes for something nice in Dorian, I think. I recorded a minute of frailing with the second string tuned up to C, fifth string tuned up to A. (ADGCD)

I've been collaborating with a few of my buddies on a project we're calling "Red Eyed Johnny." The idea is that we all pick songs from a common theme, record them, them pass them on for embellishment from other members. Anyway, if you're into process and watching, or rather, hearing our collaboration, you can check it out here:
I'm pretty jazzed because I picked up a new mic the other day and rerecorded and posted my rough version of Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My" I'm looking forward to seein' what they add to it.
